He was a simple "Oakie" with strong family ties, and we'll miss him very much. ![]() Garland enjoyed bowling in several bowling leagues, fishing and barbecuing. He was employed at US Steel (which later became USS-Posco Industries), as a fork lift driver for thirty-five years, retiring in July of 2002. He later married Darleen Birchfield in 1988. While in high school he met Charlene Lambert and they were married in 1958. The family moved to Pittsburg when Garland was eight years old and he attended local schools and graduated from Antioch High School in 1955. He was born on Januin Durant, Oklahoma to General and Grace Powell. In this scholarly work, translator Powell arranges Sappho's surviving poe.
